Top Five Crazy Extreme Sports

Skydiving, Kitesurfing, Mountain Boarding; it’s not for everyone – and for every hang gliding hero out there, there appears to be a volcano surfing veteran. So, this Friday fun piece is to introduce those of you fortunate enough to have thus far avoided Extreme Ironing and the lark.

As it’s Friday and the Christmas spirit is beginning to adorn the air, we thought we’d take a look at the silly, the surreal and the altogether splendid activities classing themselves as Extreme Sports. Well, we wouldn’t be the experts if we didn’t look in every corner, nook and cranny for activities to get the heart racing – even covering the scraps and death-traps such as this fantastic five below:

Volcano Boarding

Somewhere near 10,000 boarders have so far taken to the 2,380ft volcano – reaching speeds of up to 50mph on the Nicaragua’s Cerro Negro mountain! With no experience required, the the four year old Extreme Sport is causing quite the eruption in the world of thrills…

Extreme Ironing

Extreme Ironing has long been enjoying global coverage now, having taken the most dull household chore and combined it with some of the most exciting sports on the planet – perfect recipe? Well, the first world championships in 2002 would sure testify – as would the proceeding decade of avid contestants!

Cheese Rolling

Coopers Hill holds the annual antics of cheese rolling, with hundreds of people flocking, falling and fumbling around the hills – chasing the cheese! The well known tradition dates back years and was even banned one year due to the severity of injuries sustained. Looks wheely cheesey to us…

Extreme Ladder Climbing

These guys sure are going up in the world, and fast! This short clip is surely just an insight to the incredible world of…extreme ladder climbing. Would make a great neighbour if your cat was stuck up a tree, or if you needed to get on your roof…really fast.

Sepak Takraw

Saving the most impressive for last, Sepak Takraw is a 15th sport that is native to Malay Thai Peninsula – and appears similar at first to volleyball – except for the use of participant’s hands. Players must only use their feet, knee, chest and head to touch the ball – at great speed and with incredible athleticism as this video shows!

And there we have it, 5 of the craziest extreme sports out there! By no means the complete list, we’ll be continuing our search for the finest and most fearsome activities – and when we stumble across more treats like these; we’ll let you know!

Do you know of any other crazy extreme sports that should have made our shortlist?
